Hellenikos Ichnilatis

 Hellenikos Ichnilatis (Hellenic Hound) is a breed internationally recognized by the F.C.I., classed in Group 6, since 1959. There are numerous references to its existence over the centuries. It is employed as a hare hunter and has a highly developed sense of smell. It is a short-haired, medium-sized dog. The Greek Harehound has been exported to other countries such as Finland and Denmark.

HELLENIKOS PIMENIKOS

Hellenikos Pimenikos

Hellenikos Pimenikos (Greek sheepdog) is a primitive mountain type pastoral dog that is placed in Group 2 of the F.C.I. classification. It is thought to have descended from Greek molossoid dogs as these evolved through the centuries with genetic contributions from other mountain flock guardians of Greece.  It is a robust dog with a good physique and strong skeleton. The breed club “Friends of the Greek Sheepdog” (www.ofep.gr) was founded in 2000 to promote the breed.

WHITE GREEK SHEPHERD

White Greek Shepherd

The breed is of Greek origin, occurring in many regions of the country. International Canine Federation (F.C.I.) classification places it in Group 1 in which White Sheepdogs of various European countries are also grouped. It is a flock guardian and drover dog, suitable also for guarding property. The White Greek Shepherd Dog is a large dog. After its recognition by the K.O.E. in 2006, it became more widely known.

MOLOSSOS OF EPIRUS

Molossos of Epirus

It originates from Epirus and the surrounding mountainous areas. It is a flock guardian of sheep, goats and cattle protecting them from bears and wolves. It is a large dog, with a strong body which is slightly longer than the height at the withers. After the breed’s official recognition it became well known.

KRITIKOS LAGONIKOS

Kritikos Lagonikos

Kritikos Lagonikos (Cretan Hound) is a primitive type dog, originating from Crete, of medium size. For centuries it has accompanied flocks and is used to hunt small and medium prey, mainly hare. The breed was recognized by the K.O.E. in 2003.
